"I previously used State Farm for my collector car insurance, so when I purchased another collector vehicle, they were my first call.

I reached out on July 2nd and explained exactly what I needed. It wasn’t until July 7th that I finally received a quote. The delay was disappointing, but what really surprised me was the price. A few years ago, my collector car insurance through State Farm was only $31 a month. I expected rates to increase over the years, but I certainly wasn’t expecting a quote of $171 per month.

Haley explained that State Farm now writes these policies through Hagerty and said she could adjust the deductibles to bring the price down a little. I told her that “a little” wasn’t going to get us anywhere close to where it needed to be.

Something didn’t seem right, so I went directly to Hagerty and requested a quote for the exact same coverage. Their quote came back at just $58 per month—a huge difference.

Thinking there had to be a mistake, I sent Haley the Hagerty quote in PDF form so she could compare it to what she had quoted. After confirming that everything matched what she had entered, her response was, “Wow! Thanks for sharing. I have let the team in office know as well.”

At that point, I was left wondering why there was such a massive difference. Whether it was an issue with the quoting system or whether State Farm was marking the policy up significantly, I honestly don’t know. What I do know is that the exact same coverage was quoted at $171 through State Farm and only $58 directly through Hagerty.

To make matters even more disappointing, after this experience I contacted a couple of other collector car insurance companies, and both were able to provide quotes almost immediately instead of taking six days.

This experience was nothing like the excellent service I received from State Farm in the past. Between the long wait, the unexplained price difference, and the lack of any real explanation, I ultimately decided to take my business elsewhere."

State Farm’s personalized, human-touch approach — putting real agents first instead of just pushing an online process — made the whole experience much smoother and more reassuring. I moved both my home and auto policies to State Farm. The homeowners coverage came in comparable to what I had before (with a little bit of savings), and I was able to achieve solid savings on the two vehicles.
The only small downside is that State Farm doesn’t currently offer Gap/Lease Payoff coverage on my leased 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5, which Progressive had included. Overall I’m very satisfied with the switch, especially for a first-time experience, and I’m hopeful the renewal process next year will be just as smooth.
